Personal Note From Neil & Lisa

Dear Friend,

Lisa and Neil believe that when you integrate the platform of pain science together with yoga, you will more clearly address the needs of many of the students in your classes. More and more people are coming to yoga because of pain, and we all experience pain during yoga classes. Pain Care Aware helps all individuals – finding more options when there is pain during asana, discovering ways to explore pain rather than ignore or avoid it, and learning how to challenge our abilities in ways that allow breaking through previous limitations.

If you are reading this, you are probably a yoga teacher who found some answers for yourself and your students in the Pain Care Aware Foundations course. We hope you will continue as a student in this process, learning more about decreasing the impact of pain on society through the platforms of pain science and yoga. Both yoga and pain are immense topics. Like you we believe that everyone starting to learn about pain needs far more than an online course to successfully apply this knowledge to their work. Just like health professionals, yoga teachers benefit from receiving feedback and learning from others as part of the learning journey. And we hope you will decide to continue long after this course.

You’ve experienced those a-ha moments during yoga practice … those times when you realized that you already knew something, but now you ‘really’ know it. The same things happen as we continue to practice Pain Care Aware language and approach. After all these years, we still get them. We hear a teacher use language we have never considered, a student in a Pain Care Aware class say something in a way that just makes so much sense, and we catch ourselves saying something like, “Self-study illuminates pain science”. The point is that we hope you will experience such things when you join us for the practicum and certificate.

There is no quick path to becoming pain care aware, and to integrating pain science into yoga teaching. Completing this practicum helps you shift your language and approach. We hope this will not be where you finish your education about pain and yoga, yet it is a powerful way to start.

This course completes the Pain Care Aware Certificate – group applications. You will apply what you have been practising since completing the Foundations course.

The twenty hours CE can be used as continuing education for yoga teachers (YACEP) or yoga therapists (APD-IAYT).

This course has a focus on yoga class cueing and changing our language in yoga and other mindful movement practices, to include people in pain and to inform yoga teachers on what to do when there is pain in yoga. Whereas the individual applications course is meant for a 1:1 application of yoga and pain science, and is more suited to private yoga sessions or a therapeutic application of pain science and yoga on an individual basis.

Completing both certificates is a great idea if you offer both group classes and 1:1 teachings. You would only pay for the Foundations Course once and complete the certificate courses individually. (A total of 80 hours CEU is available when completing both PCA certificates.)

Both Pain Care Aware Certifications are offered virtually as well as in person, when and where allowed. Check our calendar directory for course options and locations that work best for you.
